In the NYT today, Cade Metz implies that I left Google so that I could criticize Google. Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google. Google has acted very responsibly.

Geoffrey Hinton, on of the few people who are often referred to as the Godfathers of AI, has had an influence on today’s state of AI since the seventies. In April 2023, he left Google (the company he worked for for over a decade) so he could freely discuss the dangers that come with the technology.
Bottom line: he’s worried
